Soundbite

Erik Vervroegen (one of the world's best Art director-president Exec CD TBWA Paris) :

"I think the secret is to always stay fresh and to not be bothered by things that have nothing to do with your job like money or internal politics. You'll be set free and the only thing you'll have to do in your life is do your best to make your work different. I have no fear, I have no debt, I have nothing. So, if something happens tomorrow and I lose my job, it's going to be OK, because I'm free and I'm still a child. It's these two things that are my secret: no money pressures and no power pressures. It will give you that BANG!"

Smooth sexy add this is. Again ads like this press my point of the value of design. Adds like this aren't annoying to see because it temps you, its almost a short videoclip. It's short but clear and sound and vision is well integrated. Perfect use of the medium.

Stategies on social networks

Last week the Forresters Consumer Marketing forum 2007 started in Barcelona. Forrester spoke about social networking and according to Forrester the 5 important strategies to get advantage from these networks are:
  • Listening

  • Talking

  • Energizing

  • Supporting

  • Embracing

A open door I would say, but the examples given are refreshing. Like the Stormhoek case to prove the point of Talking. An African wineproducer sended wines to influentail bloggers with the request to have an opinion about them. It has been very succesfull, if you want to read more about the case check http://www.emarketingblog.co.za/2007/05/graham-knox-stormhoek-case-study.html

clones are among us!

A giant step; that's how the The independant calls the results of the research centre of the Oregon Primate Research Institute. This amercian institution has been able to clone embryo's of adult monkeys. Even more eary, crazy, sick is that religious Clonaid institution that already claimed in 2002 to have cloned a human baby. Today you can read on their website that we have 13 alive cloned children today walking around on this planet. (scientific proof has never been delivered). Well just see and judge for yourself ....http://www.clonaid.com/news.php

The evolution of the emoticon

The first symbol that has been used in written communication to add an emotion was introduced in 1912 (!) by Ambrose Bierce . He proposed "an improvement in punctuation — the snigger point, or note of cachinnation: it is written thus \___/! (it presents a smile)
In 1963, the "smiley face", a yellow button with two black dots representing eyes and an upturned thick curve representing mouth, was created by freelance artist Harvey Ball. It was realized on order of a large insurance company as part of a campaign to bolster the morale of its employees and soon became a big hit. This smiley presumably inspired many later emoticons; the most basic graphic emoticon depicts this is in fact a small, yellow, smiley face.
Emoticons actually derived from a guy (Scott E. Fahlman) who noted on a online bullitin board that people would post a humorous comment, but others would not get the joke. This led to countless flames and meaningless discussions. In other words communicating without emotions doesn’t really work.

Posted is this brilliant video from Gnarlz Barkley (cool song as well) which shows us the current proficiencies of the emoticon:-)

The Internet Stars Are Viral

Picked this up at he McCann belgium blog. This movie is a nice compilation showing us the amount of popular viral (most of them unbranded) content and reminds us also the amount of time we spend watching and forwarding them.

Psyop Animation for MTV HD

Christiania, freedom rules!

Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania, but most commonly known amongst its inhabitants and visitors as "fristaden" or simply "staden", is a partially self-governing neighbourhood of about 850 residents in the centre of Copenhagen. Christiania has established semi-legal status as an independent community.
Christiania's Mission Statement: "The objective of Christiania is to create a self-governing society whereby each and every individual holds themselves responsible over the wellbeing of the entire community. Our society is to be economically self-sustaining and, as such, our aspiration is to be steadfast in our conviction that psychological and physical destitution can be averted." The result of this is something I had never seen before, If Pippi Langkous would have made children this is where they would have lived, respect and freedom for the individual , a creative atmosphere and a relief in comparison with the upcoming Vinex neigboorhoods

free running

Free running the new hyped extreme sports. The core based brands are lovin it. It derives from the fact these brands lost direction or is the other way around?. Either way I like it and could be well used for commercial purposes, its freedom, strong and healthy
